GIRLS = Jackson Heights 55, Valley Falls 39

Reagan Kirkwood scored the first 13 points of the game for Valley Falls who led 13-12 after one quarter, but the Lady Dragons committed 13 of their 26 turnovers for the game in the second stanza as Jackson Heights outscored them 19-7 to take control.  Valley Falls used an 8-3 run to start the third quarter and got within 34-28 but the Cobras answerd with seven straight points and put the game away with a ton of offensive rebounds and second chance points in the second half.

Kylie Dohl finished with 20 points as Jackson Heights improved to 6-1 on the season and Amaya Marlatt added 12 before fouling out. It was just the Lady Cobras second win in their last 12 games against Valley Falls. Kirkwood finished with 25 for the Dragons who are now 5-4 after their third straight loss.

BOYS = Valley Falls 55, Jackson Heights 52

Valley Falls burst to the early lead and posted a 23-16 score after one quarter as Hunter Aspinwall was a dominant force in the paint with 10 early points and a couple assists. However, after tailing by double-digits, the Cobras were within 31-29 at halftime and again closed the gap to 47-42 entering the fourth quarter.  Despite having about seven possession with the ball down 52-50 in the final minutes and the Dragons missing seven free throws down the stretch, Jackson Heights could never tie or take the lead.  They even got a last second shot from Kolby Rethman that would have forced overtime after Deigo Cervantez missed both free throws with three seconds to play.

Yet, the inside game and size advantage was just way to much for Jackson Heights to handle as Tyler Lockhart and Aspinwall each had monster double-double performances to lead Valley Falls to a 7-2 record, which surpassed a six-win total the past two years.  Aspinwall had nearly 14 rebounds and 7 assists plus a couple blocked shots to accompany his 22 points night while Lockhart made 7 of 9 foul shots and finished with 23 points.  The Dragons beat Jackson Heights for the first time in nine games with their last win again the Cobras in March of 2014.

Jackson Heights suffered their second straight loss to start 2019 and is now 4-3 on the season.  Lane Thomas had just three of his 16 points after halftime and Tyrell Childs scored all but two of his 13 points in the final two quarters.  Kolby Rethman made three treys to finish with nine but was held scoreless in the second half as the Cobras couldn't get a three-pointer to fall in the last 16 minutes.
