2019 Kanzaland Radio McDonald’s Player of the Game - Selections

Legion baseball rolled along Tuesday night on Kanzaland Radio with Hiawatha playing host to Doniphan County in a Northeast Kansas League doubleheader, and it was Doniphan County earning a sweep taking game one 12-2 and the second 7-6.

In game one on 103.9 KNZA Doniphan County plated two runs in the first, four in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth to earn the run-rule victory.

Braden Chalfant was named the McDonald’s Player of the Game on KNZA, as he was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBI’s and two stolen bases.

Conner Hayes picked up the win on the mound for DC as he tossed all five innings allowing just four hits, while offensively Cale Hamilton added two hits and an RBI.

In game two Hiawatha jumped out to a 6-3 lead after two innings, but Doniphan County came back and took the lead for good with one run in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to win 7-6.

Gabe Corbett led Hiawatha with two hits and an RBI, while DC had just two hits but took advantage of five walks and three Hiawatha errors. 

Sabetha takes two from Oskaloosa

Back on Sunday Sabetha continued their run through the early portion of their scheduled with another sweep, this time of Oskaloosa in two four inning games 13-3 and 10-0.

In game 1, Sabetha took a 6-0 lead into the top of the fourth, when Cord Perry hit a 2-out, 3-run double to cut the lead to 6-3.  Sabetha answered in the bottom of the inning by scoring seven runs to end the game.  Joe Gruber scattered three hits in the contests while fanning 7 hitters.  Offensively Riley Herrmann, Blake and Shane Frey and Gruber had two hits apiece, while  Herrmann, Blake Frey and Braden Argabright each scored two runs and had two RBI's.

In game 2, the Raptors broke open a 3-0 game by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning. The Raptors had three hits in the inning and were aided by 3 walks, a HBP and a pair of errors.  Herrmann, Gruber and Braden Mitchell each collected 2 hits to lead Sabetha's 10-hit attack.
