Four Area Teams Highlight Final KBCA Rankings of 2019

The 2019 portion of the high school basketball season wrapped up Friday evening and with that the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released the final rankings of the year which features four area teams.

The most area teams continue to come in Class 3A on the girl’s side with two teams from the Big 7 League ranked with Nemaha Central the new No. 1-ranked team while Sabetha checks in at No. 5.

The Thunder have been dominant all season long off to a 5-0 start with each win by at least 19 points including a 55-36 win over Perry Lecompton Friday night, while the Lady Jays are also 5-0 after a 52-35 win over Holton to close out 2019.

In Class 1A on the girl’s side the Jeff County North Chargers continue to be ranked checking in at No. 6 at 5-0 after a 61-50 win over Horton and a win over previously ranked Jackson Heights.

The final ranked area team comes on the boy’s side in Class 1A as the Valley Falls Dragons are into the rankings for the first time at No. 8 with a perfect 5-0 record following a 72-36 beat down of Oskaloosa.

The season now takes a break for the holidays before area teams get back in action Jan. 3 with the next set of rankings to be released Jan. 14.
