In one of the top games across the state in Class 1A the Centralia Panthers battled back from a 4-point halftime deficit and put together a dominant second half in a 30-12 road win at Jackson Heights Friday night.

The Panthers took an initial 8-0 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter on an 80-yard touchdown run by Devon Feldkamp before Jackson Heights took control.

From there the Cobras dominated the remainder of the half as Centralia went for it on fourth down at their own 10 yard line and failed, and two plays later Jackson Heights took advantage with Jason Bosley finding Grant Amon on a 6-yard touchdown pass to pull within 8-6.

On the next drive the Panthers tried to go to the air around midfield but Bosley pulled in an interception, returned it to the 47 yard line and then one play later found Dylan Thompson on a 52-yard strike giving the Cobras a 12-8 lead at the half.

That would be the only momentum Jackson Heights would have the rest of the night.

The Cobras got the ball to start the third quarter but on the second play of the half Centralia’s Marshall Tanking picked off a Bosley pass and nine plays later Ian Haverkamp gave the Panthers a 16-12 lead on a 3-yard run.

Centralia never looked back from there scoring two more touchdowns on runs of 15 and 8 yards from Haverkamp who had a big second half where he ran for 85 yards and those three scores.

Devon Feldkamp ran for 142 yards in the game with the 80-yard score while the Centralia defense allowed just 47 total yards in the second half and kept the Cobras off the scoreboard.

Jackson Heights struggled to run the football in what was their second game this week as they finished with 187 total yards led by Bosley who threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns including one to Grant Amon who had four catches for 56 yards and a score.

The Panthers (2-1) now get set for another big test next Friday at Valley Heights while Jackson Heights (1-1) travels to Wabaunsee.
