With most high school fall sports wrapping up and the football playoffs concluding for the remaining teams over the next couple weeks, winter sports practices are set to begin this Monday, November 16th.  There had been some discussions about delaying the start of these indoor winter sports such as basketball and wrestling; however Jeremy Holaday, assistant executive director with KSHSAA said the plan is to proceed after polling several schools with the majority responding they wanted to give it a go.

"The KSHSAA has spoke with schools about potential delays to the start or even through the holiday break. At this point it is the desire to keep the current schedule and let the local districts make the best decision for their area much like the fall season. Obviously if local health officials and districts need to delay, suspend or alter their schedule they have the power to do so."

Several Kansas schools have shifted to remote learning with the recent spike in new Covid cases. Many schools have also already begun making plans to limit the number of fans in attendance at these winter indoor sporting events as well as adjust the schedule to include less tournaments. Most middle school winter sports have already been going on for the past month.
