Area Twin Valley League teams had their final chances Tuesday to improve their seeding heading into the league tournament next week and at Wetmore it was Frankfort who swept the night winning the girl’s game 46-35 and the boys’ 57-54.

Girls: Frankfort 46, Wetmore 35

The girl’s game was highly contested throughout with Wetmore jumping out to a quick 6-point lead in the first quarter after a pair of quick buckets inside by Reagan Osterhaus and Kenzie Strathman, but Frankfort responded with six points from Mariah Broxterman to take a 14-11 lead after one.

Broxterman continued her scoring into the second with five more points while the Wildcat defense forced five turnovers in the quarter to take a 28-21 lead into halftime.

She added two more baskets in the third quarter to give Frankfort a 38-30 lead going into the fourth before Kacia Shirley hit four clutch free throws to ice the game down the stretch.

Broxterman led the way with 14 points in the win while Shirley added 11 as the Cats (5-2) hit five 3-pointers and forced 19 turnovers.

Wetmore (6-3) was led by Alyssa Bloom’s 13 points while Osterhaus and Strathman each finished with nine.

Boys: Frankfort 57, Wetmore 54

In a game that came down to the wire Wetmore saw a 10-point lead with just over two minutes to go erased by a strong Frankfort comeback.

The Cardinals led for a majority of the game and raced out to an 18-13 lead after one behind three 3-pointers and 11 total points from Kael McQueen.

Wetmore then got five points each from Kyle Wommack and Braden Henry in the second quarter to take a 31-22 lead into halftime.

Frankfort started to make their run in the third quarter with Caden Dalinghaus registering nine points in the frame to pull the Cats within five going into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals then responded with a run of their own behind a pair of Wommack buckets to push their lead back up to 10 with about 2:30 to go, but that’s when Frankfort started their run.

Aiden Gerstner got the comeback started with a 3-pointer, then after a pair of Cardinal turnovers and Frankfort baskets by Samuel Gros and Gavin Cornelison the Cats tied the game up at 52 with a minute to go.

Frankfort took the lead on a pair of free throws by Gros before going 6-of-8 from the stripe down the stretch to ice the game away.

The Cats (5-2) were led in scoring by Gros who finished with 17 points while Dalinghaus added 15.

In the loss Wetmore (4-5) had McQueen scored 20 points while Wommack added 17.
