Holton Leads Area 4A State Track Qualifiers

The Holton and Atchison track teams competed at the Tonganoxie regional Friday afternoon and both schools qualified athletes for the state meet this week in Wichita.

The Lady Cats had several state qualifiers led by Darcee Ashcraft who won the shot put and discus while Saydee Tanking won the javelin. Piper Robinson also qualified in the pole vault, Amariah Allen the triple jump, Macey Gross the high jump along with the 100 and 300-meter hurdles, Jayana Carlson the 100-meter hurdles and the 4 by 800-meter relay team.

On the boy’s side Kale Purcell led Holton by qualifying for state in three events including the long jump along with the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. Ashton Schrick also qualified in the 800-meter run while Matt Lierz heads to state in the discus along with Canon Karn who qualified in the javelin and triple jump. The Cats will also send two relay teams to state including the 4 by 400 and 4 by 800-meter teams.

Atchison had just one state qualifier and it came on the boy’s side as Eric Hill will head to state in the 300-meter hurdles.

These state qualifiers will now get set to compete on Friday for Class 4A at Cessna Stadium in Wichita with live updates on the MSC Sports Radio Network.
