The Hiawatha Legion baseball team put together two incredible performances on Wednesday night in Wathena as they swept top-seed Doniphan County to advance to the State Tournament next week.

Doniphan County needed just one win to advance but Hiawatha was dominant winning both games 9-1 in game one and then a 13-0 5-inning win in game two.

In game one, Hiawatha scored three in the second, four in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Sam Dunn went 2 for 4 with a home run. Joel Bryan was our player of the game as he pitched a 7-inning complete game allowing one run, three hits with eight strikeouts.

In game two, Hiawatha hit DC with the 5-inning run rule as they scored five in the first, three in the second, and five more in the third. Ashton Rockey reached base four times and scored three runs. Cooper Jacobson had three RBI’s.

Tyler Willich was our player of the game as he pitched a 5-inning complete game allowing no runs on four hits while adding a double and two RBI's at the plate.

Hiawatha with a record of 15-10 has posted their first winning season since 2006 and will represent the area in the State Tournament next week in Topeka.
