The Hiawatha Post 66 Legion Baseball team had their season come to an end on Saturday at the State Tournament in Topeka with a 2-0 loss to the Kansas Senators.

Hiawatha put together their best season in recent memory as they made the State Tournament and posted their first winning season since 2006.

Hiawatha started the summer winning four of their first five games and had another stretch of four straight wins in the middle of the season.

They also had a memorable Zone Tournament as they won three straight games facing elimination against Seneca and Doniphan County twice in the Championship.

The three game stretch was dominant as they outscored Seneca and Doniphan County 47-3. They finish 2022 with a 16-13 record.

As a team, Hiawatha hit nearly .300 with Xavier Oldham hitting over .500 and Carson Bredemeier with a .400 batting average.

Sam Dunn hit multiple home runs in the Zone Tournament and Joel Bryan allowed just one earned run in 31 innings prior to the State Tournament.
