It was a rare year that the Big 7 League did not have a team represented in a State Championship game in 2021. It was the first time in five years in fact, no Big 7 squad played in a football title game.
Holton advanced to Sub-State again before falling to Frontenac, while Nemaha Central and Perry Lecompton both won a playoff game and finished with winning records.
Holton was the fourth different school to win the Big 7 over the last four years following Nemaha Centrals’ three year run then Sabetha, Jefferson West, and Perry Lecompton claiming a year at the top.
The consistency remains in the Big 7 with no new head coaches for the second time in three years. The big changes this year come in new classifications and district assignments as Riverside drops to 1A and Sabetha falls to 2A. Hiawatha stayed in 3A but somehow lands on the western side of the bracket.
2022 is going to be a fantastic year in the Big 7 with some of the most competitive action in the state on a weekly basis.
