Thursday’s action from the TVL Tournament at Washington County High School saw two girls’ semifinal games with decisive final scores.

The first game was a 49-32 victory for Hanover over Clifton-Clyde. The Wildcats entered the game with the top-seed and the number one overall seed in the bracket.

Hanover got out to an impressive 22-12 lead at the half with their defense firing on all cylinders. Clifton-Clyde battle in the third quarter and got the lead down to four at one point, but the Wildcats were able to pull away in the fourth quarter to advance to the finals.

In the second semifinal, Doniphan West defeated Washington County handily 54-24. The Mustangs came into the bracket as a three-seed with the Tigers being a ten-seed.

Washington County had pulled off a pair of upsets against #7 Axtell 51-30 and #2 Frankfort 50-41, and they were hoping to do it again.

However, Doniphan West wouldn’t allow that to happen with the Mustangs doing everything right on both sides of the ball. They were able to force a lot of turnovers with their press and scored a handful of transition baskets to jump on the Tigers early.

The Mustangs would end up scoring 25 third quarter points to run away with the victory and advance to the finals to take on Hanover.

Senior forward Avery Weathersbee dominated the paint with 12 points in three quarters to tie the lead in scoring making her the Farmers State Bank "Player to Bank On".

Senior guard Kyra Johnson also scored 12 points and sophomore point guard Brennah Edie finished with ten points.

The finals on Saturday will be at 6:00 p.m. on 103.9 KNZA.
