Hiawatha Defeats Sabetha After Lengthy Rain Delay

The Hiawatha Post 66 Braves got a 9-4 victory over the Sabetha Post 126 Raptors on Friday evening.

The game was halted in the bottom of the second inning by a 45-minute rain delay after the game was tied 1-1.

The difference in the game was a four-run third inning. After a walk, Hiawatha then got four consecutive hits from center fielder Ashton Rockey, third baseman Xavier Oldham, shortstop Joel Bryan and extra hitter Cooper Jacobsen.

The singles from Oldham and Jacobsen both drove in runs and second baseman Tyler Stevens brought in another run with a sacrifice fly.

Bryan went 3-for-3 with two RBI, three steals and a run. He is our Player of the Game brought to you by McDonalds of Seneca and Hiawatha.

Rockey also had a multi-hit day going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs, two runs and two stolen bases.

Starting pitcher Brandt Barnhill scored four times and reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances. He went 1-for-1 with a single and three walks with a steal.

As for his performance on the hill, he pitched the first two innings before the delay and allowed two hits, no runs and four walks with three strikeouts.

Jacobsen pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up just one hit, one run and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.

Oldham finished the evening with the final 2.1 innings of work giving up two hits, two earned runs and two walks with one strikeout.

Sabetha starting pitcher Josh Hermann had a good game at the plate with two singles and a run. He pitched 3.1 innings surrendering five hits, five earned runs and five walks with two Ks.

Shortstop Chase Frey had two RBI with a single and a sacrifice fly. He pitched in relief for 2.2 innings and gave up three hits, one earned run and three walks with three strikeouts.
