The Nemaha Central volleyball team got their season off to a strong start going 5-1 and finishing second place at Marysville on Saturday.
The Thunder defeated Riley County, Concordia, Valley Heights, and Chapman in pool play before defeating Holton in the semi-final.
They would match up against a very solid Silver Lake squad in the title match with the Eagles defeating the Thunder for the tournament title 19-25 & 21-25.
"I am very proud of how these girls performed," said Thunder head coach Jessica Koch. "The level of play was extraordinary considering we have very few varsity players returning from last year."
Holton had a strong weekend as well as they finished in third place. The Wildcats lost to Silver Lake in pool play but got wins over Marysville, Washington County, and Sabetha.
They would defeat Concordia to earn their third place finish 25-18 & 25-19.
Sabetha (1-3), Valley Heights (2-2), Washington County (0-4), and Marysville (2-2) were other notable teams competing in the tournament but were unable to make it out of pool play.
