Regional baseball tournaments are underway with Maur Hill-Mount Academy hosting in Class 2-1A with first round games being played on Wednesday.

(4) KC Christian 8, (5) Jefferson County North 1

Jefferson County North couldn't get much going on offense with only two hits in the game. They were able to draw five walks but were only able to scratch across one run in the game thanks to a balk call.

The Panthers were led by their starting pitcher in Daniel Haivala as he pitched into the seventh inning and finished the game with 12 strikeouts.

KC Christian scored three in the first inning and would blow the game open in the sixth inning adding four more runs on RBI's by Hudson Buresh, Haivala, and Dylan Newman.

KC Christian improves to 11-8 with the win while the Chargers season closes with a record of 10-11.

(2) Valley Falls 9, (7) Maranatha Christian Academy 1

The Dragons and Eagles were locked into a pitchers dual for most of the game with Zac Evans for Valley Falls and Tyler Schiller for Maranatha.

Both were fantastic until the sixth inning when Valley Falls blew the game open. After a crucial error by Maranatha's second baseman, the Dragons would go on to score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.

They sent 13 batters to the plate with RBI's from Dylan Herring, Grant Meyer, Hayden Kearney, Damian Cervantez, Zac Evans, Collin Kearney, and Carter Pickerall.

Evans would end up pitching a complete game allowing just one run on two hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. He also had two hits including a double.

Hayden Kearney was 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored.

(3) Pleasant Ridge 8, (6) Maur Hill-Mount Academy 1

The Rams were able to advance over the Ravens on their home field with six runs scored in the first three innings paired with a dominant outing from Nathan Herken.

Herken did it both on the mound and at the plate. He finished the game going six-plus innings allowing one run with three walks and 14 strikeouts. At the plate, he had five RBI's with a three-run home run over the fence in the second inning and a two-run double in the sixth inning.

Maur Hill-Mount Academy couldn't get much going with just four hits in the game and leaving six runners on base. They got their lone run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Tony Wurtz.

It was the third meeting between the two teams this season as Pleasant Ridge swept the regular season series back in early April.

Semifinal and Championship games in this regional tournament will be played on Tuesday at MH-MA with top seed Oskaloosa taking on KC Christian at 2:00 PM followed by Pleasant Ridge against Valley Falls. The two winners will face off in the Regional Championship game with a right to go to the State Tournament.
