Hiawatha Makes Quick Work of Sabetha for Legion Victory

The Hiawatha legion baseball team scored early and often on their way to an 11-0, 4-inning win at Sabetha on Thursday night. 

Hiawatha scored four runs in the first inning on no hits with a run scoring on a passed ball, on a wild pitch, and two on a throwing error. 

They would add an RBI single from Ashton Rockey in the second inning and Kaden Smith's two-RBI single in the third highlighted a six-run frame.

Sabetha stranded two runners in each of the first three innings and outhit Hiawatha 7-5 but were unable to scratch across any runs. 

Rockey was named the McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game as he reached base in all three of his at-bats with two RBI's, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. He also pitched all four innings allowing no runs on seven hits. 

Hiawatha will play at Corning on Sunday afternoon to determine the 2024 league champion.

Hiawatha, Doniphan County, Seneca, and Corning will compete in the Zone 3 tournament beginning July 19th with two teams earning spots at the AA State Tournment.
