The Hiawatha Post 66 legion baseball team put up three touchdowns on Thursday night in the Zone 3 tournament opener against Seneca Post 21 winning 21-11 in five innings.
Seneca (11-7) scored five runs in the top of the first inning which was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Jonah Deters.
Hiawatha (23-9) wasted little time taking the lead with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Three Seneca errors didn't help the cause but Ashton Rockey, Gannon Becker, and Camden Thonen all drove in runs in that inning.
Seneca scored two in the second inning with a two-RBI single from Kaden Peterson while Hiawatha came back with five more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Cooper Wischropp had an RBI double while Thonen and Josh Smith added RBI's.
Hiawatha would pull away with three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and five more in the fifth. Seneca added four in the fifth on five hits but it wasn't enough.
Rockey was named the KNZA McDonald's of Hiawatha and Seneca player of the game as he reached base in all five of his at-bats with two doubles, one single, four RBI's, and four runs scored.
Peterson had three hits to lead Seneca which included a bases clearing three-RBI double in the fourth inning.
The tournament continues Friday for both teams as Seneca will play Doniphan County in a elimination game at 6:00 followed by Hiawatha and Corning in a winners bracket game.
