The Centralia girls basketball team held off Twin Valley League foe Clifton-Clyde on Friday night 54-43 to capture the Sub-State Championship.

The #2 ranked team in Class 1A-I improved to 22-0 and will head to Dodge City next week.

Clifton-Clyde would run 5-out on offense and slowing down the tempo throughout the course of the game which took Centralia out of their aggressive defense.

It was close in the first half with Centralia leading the Eagles 24-19 at the break. Centralia would extend that lead to 35-27 going into the fourth quarter and were able to hold on from there.

Oen Deters led Centralia with 23 points while Tava Gibbs added 19 points. Gibbs connected on 8-of-12 free throws in the second half.

Centralia has dominated their opponents this season winning all but one game by at least double figures. The one game that wasn't a double digit win was against St. Marys which was a nine point win.

They beat 3A squads Nemaha Central by 24 and the defending champs Silver Lake by 10 at the beginning of the season.

The undefeated season of course secured both the Twin Valley League regular season and mid-season tournament titles.

This is the fourth trip to the state tournament in the last six years as they finished third place last season and runner-up in 2022, losing to Pretty Prairie that season in the title game.
