The Jefferson County North Chargers went on the road last night and faced the Onaga Buffaloes in a brawl to decide who stays undefeated in 1A District 3 standings, and JCN came out on top with the 26-8 victory.
Jefferson County North over Onaga 26-8
The Chargers struck first in the opening quarter with back-to-back scoring drives led by Will Elias. Elias found the end zone off a 24-yard scamper for his first score of the quarter and on his second touchdown Elias located an open Rex Fuhrman in the air for another 24-yard touchdown play. JCN would tack on one more score before the end of the first half with a 12-yard passing touchdown from Elias to Knox Heston. Onaga suffered on key drops and an unfortunate fumble at the JCN 40-yard line on their second drive of the game to put them in the rough 20-0 hole by the end of the first half.
Onaga would bounce back to start the second half with a methodical, nearly eight minute drive, 68-yards down the field to bring it within twelve, 20-8. Gavin Kolterman scored from the goal line and quickly became the focus in the second half for Onaga to feed to ball too along with Josh Daniels. Onaga would manage to get the ball back from the Chargers to attempt to make it a one possession game, however Onaga was stuffed at their own 49-yard line on a fourth and one early into the fourth quarter. This would prove to be the nail in the coffin as JCN would take an extensive 26-8 off the legs of Merrick Noll and control the tempo the rest of the way. The Chargers also had an interception on the Buffaloes final drive to properly secure the victory.
Will Elias finished with a solid night with 89 yards in the air and 64 yards on the ground. Elias combined for three scores with his two passing touchdowns and one rushing. Elias contributed also on all fronts from special teams, defense, and of course offense. (Stats except scoring stats are Unofficial).
Summary
JCN improved to 5-0 on the season and joined Jackson Heights as the only other 2-0 team in 1A District 3. Onaga fell to 2-3 on the season and evened out to 1-1 in the district standings. The Chargers will go back home to face Valley Falls next week, while the Buffaloes go on the road to face the 1A #1 ranked Jackson Heights Cobras next Friday.
