Week 8 Games

8M-I D4

(7-0) Lincoln at (5-2) Clifton-Clyde

Lincoln put a beatdown onto Sylvan-Lucas 62-36 last Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. Lincoln is now off to their best season in over 30+ years and have had their most wins in a season since 2010 where the Leopards finished 8-2 overall, it was also the last year the Leopards had won a playoff game, beating Little River 50-30 in the first round.

The Clifton-Clyde Eagles were able to bounce back after their loss against Sylvan-Lucas with a win over Rock Hills 54-6 last Friday. The win for the Eagles secured their spot in the playoffs and improved their all-time series lead over the Grizzlies 9-3.

Last season this match-up was for an anticipated district title and Clifton-Clyde came out on top 36-28. There could be a chance if Clifton-Clyde pulls the upset that Lincoln, Sylvan-Lucas, and Clifton-Clyde could all be 4-1 in the district.

Brandon’s Pick: Lincoln
Justin’s Pick: Lincoln
Kryndon’s Pick: Lincoln
Jake’s Pick: Lincoln
Boz’s Pick: Lincoln

(3-4) Washington County at (6-1) Sylvan-Lucas

Washington County has recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since their 3-0 start in 2022 with their 78-16 victory over Lakeside-Downs last Friday. It’s the most points scored in a game since 2020 for the Tigers when they beat Doniphan West 82-60.

Sylvan-Lucas was handed their first loss of the season and in districts to the Lincoln Leopards 62-36 last week. The Mustangs haven’t given up more than 20 points until they lost last Friday. This season the Mustangs have had two defensively shutouts and have averaged over 40+ points a game.

Last season was the first ever meeting between these two schools, the Tigers lost 54-0 and will look to make it a little more of a competitive match-up to end the season. Both teams have locked spots into the playoffs.

Brandon’s Pick: Sylvan-Lucas
Justin’s Pick: Sylvan-Lucas
Kryndon’s Pick: Sylvan-Lucas
Jake’s Pick: Sylvan-Lucas
Boz’s Pick: Sylvan-Lucas

8M-II D3

(4-3) Frankfort at (6-1) Axtell – Twin Valley League

The Frankfort Wildcats have now won three straight games and have improved to a game over .500 for the first time this season. Frankfort won last Friday over Wakefield 58-12, ending the game at halftime with 38 points in the second quarter. Wes Anderson had one of his most electric games of the season with 336 yards of offense with six total touchdowns. Frankfort finished with 379 yards and eight total scores in the victory. Landon Schreiner had six tackles and two forced fumbles in the big win as well.

The Axtell Eagles historical run has finally come to an end, the Eagles were stumped at 58-straight wins, which is historically the most wins in the class of eight-man, but does come up short of the overall state record from 11-man’s Smith Center who won 79 games in a row. The winning streak was snapped by Hanover last Friday 26-18. Wyatt Detwiler finished with 118 yards passing and 34 yards rushing with two total touchdowns. Detweiler went in from the goal-line off a quarterback keeper and scored a late 77-yard kickoff return touchdown.

Last season Frankfort gave Axtell their biggest run for their money in both the regular season and the sub-state championship. Axtell beat Frankfort 76-30 in the regular season and then 52-20 in the sub-state title game.

Brandon’s Pick: Axtell
Justin’s Pick: Axtell

The Bombers rushing attack did manage to produce 161 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns. Moenning led the running game for Wakefield with 81 yards off 10 carries for just one score.

The Dawgs’ only loss this season was against Nemaha Central in week three and they have outscored their last four opponents 209-42. Against Olpe, Rossville rushed for over 300 yards and averaged nearly 11 yards per carry.

Since 2004, Rossville is 16-0 against Wabaunsee and only one of those games was legitimately close and that was back in 2011. Rossville secures the district title with a win while Wabaunsee can navigate a home playoff game if they can upset the Dawgs.

Justin’s Pick: Rossville
Kryndon’s Pick: Rossville
Jake’s Pick: Rossville
Boz’s Pick: Rossville
