 The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 286 Division I Women's softball student-athletes have been named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Three Peru State Bobcat softball players received the annual honor. Senior Emily Maresh (Central City), senior Trista Hutchings (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada), and junior Abbie Moser (Lincoln) were among those recognized.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

For Maresh, this was her second time being named a Scholar-Athlete. The senior catcher received Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) second team recognition upon conclusion of the softball season. Maresh will be student teaching next fall as a K-12 health and physical education major.   She also has an exercise science major.

Hutchings recently graduated from Peru State with a degree in psychology.  A pitcher/outfielder played for Peru State for the past two years.

An infielder, Moser is a social science teaching major with a coaching minor.

Under Coach Mark  Mathews' tutelage, 40 Bobcat softball players now have earned post-season academic recognition.
