The third ranked team in 3A and under in the state by the KWCA took home a third place finish at the Paola wrestling tournament over the weekend as the ACCHS Tigers put together a strong showing on the mats. Atchison also competed on the day placing 16th out of 17 teams in competition.

ACCHS Tigers were paced on the day with a first place performance by Scott Birkinsha at 170lbs who finished the day 4-0 with a pair of pinfall wins, a major decision win and a 8-6 decision win in the championship bout over a Derby wrestler.

Fellow ranked Tiger wrestlers, Willy Dieckman (138lbs) and Hunter Ostertag (106lbs) both registered second place performances both going 3-1 in action.  Third place was earned by Justin Wagner (152lbs) and Bratten Forbes (220lbs) for the Tigers. While other Tigers posted great performances including Jordon Herrman (113lbs) who placed fourth, Jake Handke (195lbs) placed sixth, while Dylan Birkinsha (138lbs), Sam Reiss (145lbs) and Mike Regan (152lbs) all earned eighth place finishes.

Atchison despite only finishing 16th as a team had a wrestlers finish fifth and sixth on the day as a pair of Redman grapplers took fifth and two more sixth. Taylor Funk (285lbs) and Andrew Adrian (113lbs) both posted fifth, while Ben Vanderwiede (145lbs) and Jeff Wallingford (126lbs) each took sixth.
