With a trip to the sub-state championship on the line, neither Smith wanted to back down. Atchison senior Arika Smith and Basehor-Linwood senior Victoria Smith put on a show on Thursday night on Basehor’s home floor.

To start the game, Victoria Smith made her presence known as she scored 10 of Basehor-Linwood’s 11 points. Arika Smith only made two free throws, but Atchison only trailed 11-8 after the opening quarter. Things turned around for the Lady Red as they claimed the lead and held onto it throughout the quarter. Arika Smith exploded with 19 points to finish with 21 in the first half, but Victoria Smith’s 19 points gave the Lady Bobcats a 35-31 lead at halftime. The difference in the game came from Basehor’s defense. The Lady Bobcats limited Atchison to just 11 second-half points to win 62-42.

The curtain closed on the “Smith Show” as Victoria and Arika combined for 61 of the 104 points scored in the game. Victoria Smith led all scorers with 33 points and Arika Smith finished her stellar career with 28 points to be the Bank of Atchison Player to Bank On.

Basehor-Linwood goes to 14-7 on the season and takes on Piper for the Class 4A-DI Sub-State Championship. Atchison’s season comes to an end as the Lady Red finish with a 12-9 record
