Atchison girl's tennis team took to the courts on Tuesday afternoon in Topeka at the Hayden Invite and battled tough competition and the Mother Nature on the day with the wind, taking sixth place as a team on the day.
The lone on the day for the Lady Red came in singles competition as Allison Kelly went 1-2 in singles number two competition, giving her fifth place on the day. Kelly won over the competitor from Wamego 8-6, while falling 8-0 to Marysville and 8-1 to Hayden. Celina Binkley competed in singles number one and fell 8-0 to Marysville, 8-1 to Hayden and 8-2 against Perry Lecompton.
In doubles competition the tandem of Alyxus Thomas and Brienna Dove went 0-3 falling 8-0 to Marysville and Hayden and 8-1 to Wamego, while the team of Makayla Ernzen and Kathy Tull also went 0-3 falling 8-0 to Hayden and 8-1 to both Wamego and Marysville.
Coach Walt Hare said multiple inexperience players saw action and it was a good learning experience for the team and players.
Atchison hits the courts again on Saturday, September 13th in Hiawatha at the Hiawatha Invitational.
