Atchison Girls & Boys Sweep KCAL Cross Country Titles

The Atchison Redmen continued their cross country season in League action on Thursday and dominated the competition, laying claim to the KCAL girls and boys team titles and top individual spots, also. 

In the girls competition Atchison won the team title by 40 points over Sumner Academy, beating out the other two schools competing as a team. The lady Red were led by Sarah Jaloma who in her senior year continues to have top flight performances and she won the individual KCAL title on Thursday with a time of 19:58. Six other lady Red runners’ notched Top 10 finishes on the day. Emily Jaloma took third place with a time of 21:34, while Lyndi Hanson earned fourth (21:47), Hailey Macierowski took fifth place (22:13), Teagan Hanson placed sixth (22:17), Haley Greibat notched seventh place (22:58) and Skyler Blakeley finished ninth (23:19). 

For the boys it was Matthew Sowers pacing the way to a team title which Atchison won over three other schools and won by 42 points. Sowers posted a time of 18:07 to claim first place, while Simon Holly followed him up in second behind a time of 18:15. Austin Piper, Brennan Wheatley, Spencer Vice and Dakota Harris all notched Top 10 showings for the Redman finishing sixth (19:26), eighth (19:42), ninth (20:07) and tenth (20:21). Ty Bieber finished out the runners for Atchison on the day and he grabbed an 11th place finish. 

Up next the Redmen turn their attention to Regionals on Saturday, October 24th in Class 4A at Baldwin.
