Atchison Sweeps Girls & Boys Titles at Home Track Meet

It was a windy day for a track meet but the competition was just as a strong as the wind as Atchison host a track Invitational with Troy and ACCHS from the area competing along with five other schools. 

The host Atchison Redmen dominated the competition registering first place with their girls and boys teams by wide margins behind a combined 20 event wins on the day. The lady Red won their home meet title scoring 190 total points to win by 74 points over West Platte who took second (3rd - North Platte, 4th - ACCHS, 5th - Lafayette (MO), 6th - Savannah, 7th - Troy, 8th - Bishop Ward). 

The Redmen boys also won the team crown by a wide margin recording 178 total points on the day to win the team crown by 65 points over Lafayette (St. Joseph, MO) who took second place (3rd - North Platte, 4th - West Platte, 5th - Savannah, 6th - Bishop Ward, 7th - Troy, 8th - ACCHS).

Plenty of top performances paced Atchison at their home meet including a Relay sweep of the day as the girls and boys each won all three relay golds. The lady Red snagged the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays with times of 53.76, 4:26.78 and 10:45.30, while the Redmen boys took the golf in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 behind times of 45.69, 3:41.21 and 9:18.10. 

Three individuals picked up a pair of golds in individual events on the day for Atchison. Sarah Jaloma paced herself to the win in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:43.88 and 12:41, respectively, while Talia Rawls sprinted to the gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes behind times of 13.93 and 28.61. On the boys side Simon Holly earned a pair of first place finishes winning the 400 meter dash (54.26) and the 1600 meter run (5:04.56). 

Four other gals snagged gold medals for Atchison as Emily Jaloma won the 300 meter hurdles (52.47), while Payton Nigus took first in the javelin (104'02.25), Haley Griebat earned the gold in the high jump (4'10) and Anna Shipley placed first in the pole vault (8'06). For the boys LaMarca Tolbert sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (11.96), while Matthew Sowers won the 3200 meter run (10:59.81), Tyler DeSilva took the gold in the 800 meter run (2:11.23) and Seth Heckle won the 110 meter hurdles (17.49). 

Multiple second and third place finishes were garnered by several Atchison athletes also. Second places finishes were earned by Jaihlyn Bratton (girls - 100m), Skyler Blakley (girls - 800m), Wykeen Gill (boys - 100m), Alex Martin (boys - 400m), Bret Huntington (boys - 300m hurdles) and Benedict Horvatic (boys - javelin). While third place finishes were earned by Kadejah Ross (girls - 100m), Arhianna Franklin (girls - 200m), Lindsey Anderson (girls - discus), Frederick Simpson (boys - 100m), Horvatic (boys - 800m), Heckle (boys - 300m hurdles), Nathan Stone (boys - pole vault) and Tolbert (boys - triple jump).

The Troy Trojans competed on the day and had a first place finisher in Lexi Norris who behind a leap of 14'02.50 won the girls long jump, while Amanda Stock took second in the 100 meter hurdles and high jump and Brylee Weidmer placed second in the 300 meter hurdles. For the boys Preston Robinson led the Trojans finishing second in the shot put. 

ACCHS was led by Madison Bissell on the day as she won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.36, while the Tigers took second in the 4x400 meter relay and Kayla Vessar snagged the silver in the 200 meter dash. Third place finishes were earned by Beba Scholz in the 1600 meter run, Bissell in the 800 meter run, Jaycee Ernzen in the 400 meter dash and the Tiger 4x100 meter relay team.
