Atchison played host to the Kansas City-Atchison League track meet action on Thursday and it was the Redmen dominating the competition coming out as the League Champions for both the girls and the boys.

In the girls action the lady Red notched 235 total points finishing 126 points ahead of Sumner Academy to win the League title. Eleven event wins paced the lady Red on the day on their way to the KCAL track title. For the boys it was a tighter race for the League title than the girls but still won by a wide margin for the Redmen as the boys scored 185 total points, claiming the KCAL track crown by 66 points over FL Schlagle who took second as a team. The boys were led by seven event wins on the day.

A dual gold day for Hailey Macierowski paced the lady Red as she posted times of 6:09.28 and 13:35.24 to win the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, respectively. Atchison girls put together plenty of other top notch performances as they swept the relay competitions taking first in the 4x100 (52.24), 4x400 (4:23.12) and 4x800 (10:35.66). Also on the track Mattie Dougherty and Line Jensen each brought home a first place for Atchison winning the 800 meter run (2:45.64) and 400 meter dash (1:02.42), respectively.

In the field events the lady Red claimed four first place finishes on the day helping them take the KCAL title. Payton Nigus and Lindsey Anderson each tossed their way to first place finishes coming in the javelin (101'04) and discus (96'00), respectively. While in the triple jump a leap of 32'06 earned Kathryn McCoole the gold and a vault of 8'00 won the pole vault for Anna Shipley.

The Atchison boys were led by a dual gold winner just like the girls as Matthew Sowers won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs posting times of 5:00.70 and 10:52.96. Redmen also grabbed gold medals in the 4x400 (3:39.79) and 4x800 (8:51.88) meter relays, while SImon Holly raced to the win in the 800 meter run (2:07.41). In the field events Nathan Stone vaulted his way to first in the pole vault (9'06) and Cameron Drury with a toss of 101'10 won the discus.

Attention now turns to Regionals for Atchison as they look to compete for the right to compete at State. The Redmen will compete in the Class 4A Eudora Regional on Friday, May 20th.
