Fresh off a strong third place finish at the Wamego Invitational the Atchison girls tennis team continued their season on Monday against Lafayette in a dual competition.

While the day went the way of Lafayette as Atchison claimed only two wins in the nine matches, Coach Walt Hare thought it was a great learning opportunity and was able to get some younger players on the court to gain some experience.

Eden Barnett and Jordan Fitkin both snagged wins on the day for the Redmen as Barnett won her singles match 8-2 after her opponent had an injury, while Fitkin won a tough 8-4 match. Hailey Lewis, Alyxus Thomas, Reece Dulac and Kathy Tull also all competed in singles action on the day falling 3-8, 1-8, 1-8 and 0-8, respectively.

The team of Fitkin and Lewis came the closest to a win in doubles action falling 5-8, while Barnett and Dulac put on a solid showing as a team but fell 4-8. Tull and Thomas also competed as a team and suffered a 1-8 loss.

Three competitions already under their belt the Atchison girls tennis team will hit the court again on Tuesday, September 6th at the Hayden Invitational.
