Highland Women's Basketball Rolls to Another Win

For the second time this young basketball season the Highland lady Scotties took on William Penn JV this time on the road and picked up the 81-49 victory. 

Scotties led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and used a 17-9 second and a 34-13 third quarter to pad the lead and cruise to the 81-49 win, shooting nearly 50% from the floor. Mariane Carvalho paced the Scotties with 21 points on 9-14 shooting and added six rebounds. Szonja Vukov chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds, while all other nine gals that played in the game scored a bucket in the contest.

Highland improved to 4-0 on the season with the win and hits the court again on Thursday at home as the Scotties host Missouri Valley junior varsity at 6:00pm.

A Trio of Lady Scotties Volleyball Players Earn Postseason Honors

The Highland volleyball team wrapped up the season with a 24-14 record notching their most wins since 2011 and a trio of lady Scotties have earned postseason honors.

Sophomore, Tyrecia Lukes picked up first team All-KJCCC East Division II honors and first team All-District M Division II honors. Lukes led the Scotties in kills this year with 430, while also leading the team in blocks with 141 and recording a 112 digs on the season. 

Former ACCHS Tiger and sophomore, Shailey Caudle picked up second team All-KJCCC East Division II honors and second team All-District M Division II honors. Caudle finished second on the team in kills with 419 and tied for second in digs with 307, while recording 20 blocks. 

Freshman, Leslie Polanco earned second team All-District M Division II honors and honorable mention All-KJCCC East Division II honors. Polanco led the Scotties in digs with 458, while recording 292 kills and added 25 blocks on the year. 

Highland Freshman Earns Special Teams Player of the Week Football Honors

Highland Scotties improved to 7-3 on the season with a bit 48-10 win over #9 Coffeyville at home last Saturday and freshman, Ronnie Jamison gave the Highland Scotties a spark on special teams. Jamison had an 89-yard touchdown on a kickoff return in the second quarter helping the Scotties beat Coffeyville.

Jamison finished the day with a pair of kickoff returns for 114 yards while adding three successful two-point conversions. He also added 167 yards of total offense with six carries for 39 yards and one reception for 14 yards on the day.
