Atchison Cross Country Leads Area Teams at Basehor-Linwood Invite

The 2017 cross country season got underway Thursday evening at the Basehor-Lindwood Invite for two area teams and the Atchison Redmen had the best finish as the girls came away with fourth while the boys took fifth.

On the girls side Atchison senior Emily Jaloma led all area runners taking first place behind a time of 21:25.6, while her teammate Adalynn Collins wasn’t far behind placing sixth with a time of 23:24.0. Atchison senior Teagan Hanson was able to pick up a top-20 finish as well, as she finished in 15th place with a time of 25:05.4.

The Pleasant Ridge girls also had one runner break the top-20, as Grace Dedeke finished in 17th place behind a time of 25:46.6.

On the boys side the Redmen also had the top finish of any area athlete, as senior Matthew Sowers posted a time of 18:34.9 which was good enough for a second place finish. Fellow senior Brennan Wheatley joined Sower in the top 15, as he took 14th behind a time of 19:46.9.

As for Pleasant Ridge the Rams finished with two runners inside the top-10, as seniors Dayton Flack and Garrett Silvers claimed fourth and ninth respectively behind times of 18:53.3 and 19:26.7.

The Rams and Redmen now take a week off, before traveling to the Wamego Invitational Saturday, September 9 at 9 AM.
