Seven Area Football Teams In at Least One Poll Across State After Week 1

Week one of the high school football season is in the books across the State of Kansas and several area teams opened the season strong. With those strong performances seven area teams find themselves in at least one set of rankings in the State, while four more are getting attention in the polls. 

A team that is basically the consensus #1 in the State is from the area and that is the Hanover Wildcats who are the 8-Man Division II defending champs and opened the season with a 46-6 win over Lebo in week on. Wildcats are ranked #1 in all four polls. The Frankfort Wildcats started the season with a tough win over Onaga and are now getting attention in the 8-Man DII polls, while Clifton-Clyde topped Linn in week one and is garnering attention in the 8-Man DI polls. 

Another area team finds themselves in the #1 spot in three of the four rankings and #2 by Kpreps in Class 3A that's the Nemaha Central Thunder. The Thunder rolled past ACCHS 79-6 in the season opener scoring in a plethora of ways and with multiple guys. Joining the Thunder in the 3A rankings this week is the Marysville Bulldogs who cruised past the defending 3A State champions, Rossville winning 52-13. Marysville jumps into the polls at #5 in three polls and #4 in the Kansasprepfootball.com polls. Sabetha Bluejays after a week one win at Centralia are also getting attention in Class 3A. 

Class 2-1A features the Jefferson County North Chargers across the board in the rankings after the Chargers ran past Maur Hill-Mount Academy 50-7 in week one. JCN is ranked as high as #2 in the Kpreps rankings, while coming in #3 in two polls and #4 in another. Valley Heights Mustangs galloped to a season opening win 59-26 over Troy and are ranked #4 by VarsityKansas and #5 by Kpreps. While the Doniphan West Mustangs topped Washington County 39-6 in the season opener and find themselves ranked #5 by VarsityKansas. Jackson Heights Cobras are also getting attention in the 2-1A polls across the State after cruising to a 68-0 win over Maranatha. 

The Holton Wildcats find themselves in the 4A-Division II rankings across the board coming in at #4 of #5 this week after beating Atchison 45-14 to open the season.
