Highland hosted their first conference game of the season against the Independence Pirates (0-3). Coming off of a 3-1 tournament turnout the Scotties came into the game with momentum.

Five kills and a big block would start the game for the Scotties. Leslie Polanco's serve got the Pirates out of rhythm and the Scotties went on a five point run to go up 13-7 resulting in a the Pirates's first timeout. Zealia Kleitz and Mallory Wagner put down a block to put the Scotties up 19-8 and two blocks by Kleitz helped finish the first set 25-15.

After a slow start for the Scotties, the team would find themselves in a battle the whole second set. Koie Orozco took control of the net putting down kill after kill. The Pirates crept back into the game but an unstoppable front row blocking effort helped finish the set with the Scotties on top 26-24.

Leslie Polanco served seven in a row early in the third set to put the Scotties up 10-2 with a great offensive line between Orozco, Cohalla, and Wagner. The momentum stayed with the home team to finish out the third set 25-19.

Freshman Katie Pearson controlled the offense throughout the whole three set match both with her sets (32) and led her team in defensive efforts (11). Orozco came up as tonight's kill leader with 10 followed by Polanco (9), Wagner (7) and Emma Cohalla (6). Wagner had double digit digs with 10 followed by Polanco with 9 of her own. The team added up 10 blocks on the night, led by Pearson with two solo and two block assists.

The Highland Scotties (8-2) will travel to McCook, NE to take on another weekend tournament against Cloud County, McCook, North Platte, and Butler on Friday and Saturday, September 8 and 9th.
