The legion baseball season rolled along on Thursday with the first divisional matchups in the Northeast Kansas League.

Both Sabetha, Silver Lake and Leavenworth finished the night with sweeps in their doubleheaders with one on the road and two at home. Sabetha picked up two road wins beating Seneca 8-1 and 6-4, while Silver Lake scored to home wins topping Corning 4-0 and 11-3. Leavenworth earned their first two wins of the season with a sweep of Hiawatha winning 9-5 and 11-1. Doniphan County was also credited with two forfeit wins over Atchison on Thursday.

Sabetha Takes Two on Road Over Seneca Led by No-Hitter
There wasn't much offensive production by both teams at the plate overall on the night but Sabetha took advantage of the plethora of free passes given to them by Seneca and earned the sweep winning 8-1 and 6-4.

It was a pitching duel in game one between Brayden Becker and Derek Uphaus as both pitchers were strong in the contest. Becker stymied the Seneca offense throughout the contest giving up just three total base runners in the contest and only one unearned run. While Uphaus was tagged for a pair of runs early but was strong too in six innings of work. Sabetha got on the board in the first on an RBI single by Brandon Brownlee scoring Blake Frey, while Sabetha manufactured another run in the second to lead 2-0. Seneca got their run in the fourth using a pair of errors and wild pitch to score Mitchell Henry and make it 2-1. A Riley Hermann RBI single in the sixth gave Sabetha a 3-1 lead and the game entered the seventh with that score. Seneca made a pitching change in the seventh and after getting the first two-outs of the inning Sabetha plated five runs using five walks, a hit batter and two hits including a two RBI double by Braden Argabright. Sabetha went on to capture the 8-1 win.

Becker led Sabetha earning the win on the mound as he tossed a no-hitter and recorded 15 strikeouts earning him the win and McDonald's of Seneca and Hiawatha "Player of the Game" honors on KNZA radio. Pretson Bruning and Argabright led Sabetha at the plate each with two hits with Argabright notching a pair of doubles. Uphaus in the loss threw six strong innings for Seneca giving up three runs on six hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out eight.

Game two saw both teams once again struggle to find a hit as the contest featured only four hits combined. Seneca got on the board first using a leadoff walk by Luke Reitz in the second as Chris Lewis brought him in on an RBI groundout. The lead grew for Seneca in the fourth as Trevor Holthaus blasted a two-run homer and Landen Baker hit a RBI single to score three in the fourth and lead 4-0. Baker who picked strong in the first four innings for Seneca limiting Sabetha was replaced on the mound in the fifth and just like game one Sabetha used the free pass to find runs. Behind six walks, a hit batter and several wild pitches Sabetha scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead and ultimately the game 6-4 despite only having one hit.

Sabetha's lone hit was a double by Seth Burdick, while Argabright and Trevor Kramer combined to toss the five innings in the contest for Sabetha. Hermann, Brett Stallbaumer and Brownlee each drew two walks as Sabetha compiled 10 walks in the game. Baker was strong on the mound for Seneca going four innings giving up no runs on just one hit and four walks, while Holthaus, Baker and Uphaus record the Seneca hits.

The wins improved Sabetha to 4-0 to open the legion baseball season, while Seneca with the losses fell to 1-3 on the season.
