2018 Legion Baseball State Tournament Brackets – AA State & AAA State

Marysville became the third Northeast Kansas League team to qualify for the 2018 AA Legion baseball State tournament after a 10-4 win on Friday night over Smith Center to win the AA Russell Zone tournament.

Things got rolling early for Marysville as Jayton Haggard notched an RBI single and made it 1-0 in the top of the first and then take on three more runs in the second inning to go up 4-0 early. Marysville pushed the lead up with two more runs in the third inning and then two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to lead 10-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. Smith Center tried to claw back late but only managed three runs and Marysville secured the 10-4 win.

The win on the mound for Marysville was earned by Derek Roever as he tossed six and a third innings giving up four runs on five hits and struck out nine with only one walk. On offense Marysville out-hit Smith Center 10-5 and was led by Brennan Wetter and Haggard who each recorded two hits. Wetter added a pair of walks to his day and Haggard had a pair of RBI's.

The win moves Marysville to 23-6 and into the AA State tournament at Sabetha starting on July 25th. Sabetha and Silver Lake out of the NEKL will also be at the AA State tournament, while Leavenworth is set to compete at the AAA State tournament.
