Week three of the high school football season took place Friday night and with that the third set of regular season high school football rankings have been released.

In Class 3A the Sabetha Bluejays continue to be ranked at the top of the state, checking in at No. 1 according to the Topeka Capitol Journal and at No. 2 on kpreps.com. Sabetha improved its record to 3-0 on the season with a hard-fought win in by far the Bluejays toughest task of the season last Friday night, holding on and taking down Perry Lecompton 35-33 stopping the Kaws on a two-point conversion try with less than a minute remaining.

Despite the loss Perry Lecompton continues to be ranked in kpreps top five, as the Kaws remain at No. 5 at 2-1 on the season. Perry will have another tough test this week, opening up district play against Wellsville who is 2-1 on the season.

Once again just one area team is in the 8-man division one rankings, as the Cap Journal has Clifton-Clyde at No. 4 while kpreps has the Eagles at No. 5. Clifton-Clyde is off to a 3-0 start to the year after a 66-14 beat down of Wilson last week, but the Eagles will face their toughest test of the season this week traveling to Hill City who is 2-1 averaging 59 points per game.

In 8-man division two, two area teams continue to be ranked in the top five with the Hanover Wildcats sitting atop the rankings for the fourth straight week according to both publications. The Wildcats showed last week exactly why they are No. 1, blowing out then No. 2 Rock Hills 68-0 pushing Hanover’s current win streak to 28 games.

The Axtell Eagles continue to move up the rankings after another dominating victory last week, checking in at No. 3 according to the Cap Journal and at No. 5 on kpreps. The Eagles continued their torrid start Friday night with a 48-0 thumping of Onaga, and will have a home game this week against Pike Valley.
