For the first time since 2006, the Hiawatha Post 66 Legion Baseball team is set to compete in the state tournament. The pool play format will start on Wednesday as Hiawatha open play at 10:00 AM against Larned. Then on Thursday at 2 PM, Hiawatha will play Concordia before finishing pool play with a 2PM Friday contest against Iola. The top two teams in this pool with advance to a single-elimination bracket with a semifinal on Saturday.
All games will be played at Bettis Sports Complex in Topeka and all Hiawatha state games will be broadcast live on KNZA 103.9 FM and free online at www.mscsports.net.
With their backs against the wall facing elimination, Hiawatha won three straight games in the Zone Tournament in Wathena last week by a combined incredible score of 47-3. The team enters state with a record of 15-10.
