The Hiawatha Redhawks and the Nemaha Central Thunder match up for a final time in the year after just battling a double-header not long ago this season, where the Thunder would take the series sweep. Today, the Thunder continued their winning streak against Hiawatha with the 12-6 quarterfinals victory, which also snapped a five-game losing streak entering the postseason this season.
Hiawatha represented the seventh seed and would bat first against the number two-seeded Nemaha Central Thunder. The Redhawks left one on in the first inning as Kenzee Nelson was stranded off of her two-out double. Nemaha Central would post up two runs off just one hit in the bottom of the first. Alex Burkitt led off the Thunder with a walk, and Sadie Haverkamp stepped quickly right up and sent a home run blast past the fences to give the Thunder the lead.
Nemaha Central would extend their lead to 3-0 by the end of the second with a solo shot homerun by Caroline Nordhus, who took the first pitch she saw out of the park.
The Redhawks finally entered the scoring column in the top of the third with Micheala Williams and Adison Williams coming through to score after both reaching on base hits. The Thunder would have their first and only three-up and three-down inning in the bottom of the third, being shut out by Hiawatha.
The fourth inning went quiet for both teams until the fireworks went off in the fifth for both sides. Hiawatha took the lead 4-3 in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single from Kylee Nelson. But Nemaha Central responded with five runs off five hits in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead 8-4.
Hiawatha would be down 12-4 before heading up to the final three outs in the top of the seventh. The Redhawks would put up two more final runs in the last inning and ended with game with six runs, seven hits, one error, and seven left on base. Nemaha Central ended with twelve runs, ten hits, three errors, and five left on base. (All Stats Unofficial).
Reagan Gerety recorded the win for the Thunder from the circle with all seven innings pitched, only allowing six runs, seven hits, two walks, and striking out four total batters, putting her at one hundred and ten strikeouts on the year.
