Valley Falls Baseball Defeats Doniphan West to advance to State Tournament

The Valley Falls baseball team advanced to the 2-1A State Tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons as they defeated Doniphan West 4-1 in the title game on Wednesday. 

The Dragons got to the title game by beating Jefferson County North 7-0 in the semifinals while the Mustangs got there by beating Oskaloosa 2-1. 

Valley Falls got a two run single from Matt Stapp in the second inning to take the early 2-0 lead. 

Rucker Harring would get D-West on the board in the fifth with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. 

The Dragons responded with two crucial hits in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double by Trenton VanHoutan and an RBI single by Collin Kearney. 

VanHoutan pitched all seven innings for Valley Falls allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts. 

Kolter Peterson pitched all six innings for Doniphan West and gave up four runs on six hits with four strikeouts. 

Valley Falls will enter next week's state tournament in Great Bend with a record of 22-4.
