The Sabetha Bluejays hosted the 3A Baseball Regional tournament last Friday and today, and not only hosted the Regional but took the Regional Title by a final score of 15-5 over the Marysville Bulldogs.

Marysville beat Riverside 12-3 in the first semifinal match-up to advance to the Regional Championship. Sabetha took down the Nemaha Central Thunder by the closest game of the entire regional, 7-4, to advance to the Regional Championship themselves.

The Marysville Bulldogs would strike first with four straight hits to start the top of the first against Sabetha in the championship game, and two runs would come through off the hits. Sabetha would end the top of the first with a double play made by Mitchel Kramer, getting the tag out on the runner headed to second and firing the throw on time to first.

The Bluejays would get their first runs of the game to tie it in the bottom of the second, with two runs coming through with Ike Tramp and Curtis Fitzgerald for Sabetha. Sabetha, after the four straight singles allowed to Marysville, would then retire ten straight batters and force three straight shutout innings.

Sabetha, during their defense strong stretch put up six runs off three hits in the bottom of the third. Two major errors by the shortstop helped Sabetha get going in the third. The scoring in the inning got going off a RBI-Triple from Mitchel Kramer, who came in and scored shortly after for the Bluejays, after giving them the lead.

There was a chance in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early for the Bluejays with the winning run on third and the game 12-3, but Marysville earned their chance for another inning to bat at the top of the sixth with a groundout play to first. Marysville would drive in two runs at the top of the sixth to make the score 12-5, but Sabetha would put it away with three runs off two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Ike Tramp had the game-winning run as he was knocked in by Cole Menold, who had hit his second single of the game for the winning score.

Sabetha won 15-5 and run-ruled the Regional Championship by the bottom of the sixth against Marysville. Ike Tramp came through and scored four runs for Sabetha as he reached four times, reaching on two walks and two hits. Ried Mitchel and Isaac Harter both also had multi-hit games for Sabetha.

Sabetha finished with fifteen runs, nine hits, and two errors while leaving eleven on base. Marysville ended the championship with five runs off seven hits, having four defensive errors, and leaving only two left on base.

The winning pitcher was Isaac Harter, who went six innings, allowed just seven hits, five runs, one walk, and five strikeouts.

This is the fourth straight year that the Bluejays have gone to state in baseball, but have yet to get past the first round in state. This year, they will try to make a run back at Manhattan.
