The Perry-Lecompton boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night in style Tuesday, earning a 65-50 victory over Valley Falls on their home floor.
The Kaws opened the night by starting five seniors, including Ronnie Baker. Baker has been sidelined since suffering an injury during football season and had not appeared in a game all winter. On Tuesday, he not only took the floor — he scored the first basket of the night for Perry-Lecompton, drawing a loud ovation from the home crowd.
The emotional start carried over into the first quarter, as the Kaws built a 16-9 lead after eight minutes. Perry-Lecompton continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, stretching the advantage to 35-20 by halftime and maintaining control throughout the second half.
A key factor in the Kaws’ success was their shooting from beyond the arc. Perry-Lecompton knocked down 13 three-pointers, with three players turning in big offensive performances. Houston Habiger led the way with 18 points. Colby Krein connected on five three-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Easton Graves added three triples on his way to 15 points.
Valley Falls, the Northeast Kansas League champions this season, was led by Collin Kearney, who posted 21 points and nine rebounds. Damian Cervantez added 11 points, and Flint Seymour chipped in 10.
With the win, Perry-Lecompton improves to 15-7 on the season and will close out the regular season Friday at Royal Valley. Valley Falls falls to 14-8 and will wrap up its regular season at Jackson Heights.
