There have been only three teams to ever go undefeated in league play and win the Twin Valley League title, and now Axtell has run the table back-to-back twice.

The Axtell Boys Basketball team has yet again secured a second straight TVL regular season title, securing it just like last season with a final regular season victory over Clifton-Clyde.

The Axtell Eagle boys are the #2-ranked team in Class 1A Division II, finishing the regular season with an impressive 22-1 record and another perfect 10-0 mark in league play.

The sole loss of the season was in the TVL Championship against Hanover, in which Axtell would bounce back a few weeks later in a regular season match-up, coming up victorious against Hanover 65-62.

Last season was the first-ever TVL league title for Axtell, and after failing to secure the league title in football for the fifth consecutive year due to a challenging Hanover team, Axtell was able to battle through the adversity and get it done.

The seniors who have made this team possible feature Colin Shaugnessy, Landon Schmitz, Lucas Talbit, and Abram Kostal, alongside the assistance from a strong junior class featuring the 6’6 Logan Sandmann, Joe Lybarger, Wyatt Detweiler, Clayton Heinen, and Riley Hasenkamp, including a notable standout sophomore in Bill Lybarger, who has scored over 100 points this season.

Axtell has seven players who have scored over 100 points this season. While Shaugnessy has averaged a steady 20+ points per game performance this season, Logan Sandmann has been there to back him up at around 14 points per game.

Axtell has averaged nearly 70 points per game this season and has allowed their opponents to score roughly under 40 points per game, having scored over 1,500 points as a team this year in just the regular season.

Axtell holds the #1 seed in the Wakefield Sub-State bracket, receiving a bye in the first round, and will await either #8 Pike Valley or #9 Notoma. This match-up will take place at Axtell next Saturday, the 28th, beginning at around 2:00 PM.
