The Silver Lake girls basketball team maintained its hold on first place in the Big East League standings Friday night with a dominant 66–37 road victory over Nemaha Central.
The Class 3A No. 1–ranked Eagles built an early advantage, leading 14–8 after the first quarter and extending the margin to 34–17 by halftime. Silver Lake continued to control the game in the second half, opening up a large enough lead for a running clock during the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
Silver Lake connected on eight three-pointers, shot 8-of-9 from the free-throw line, and committed just eight turnovers in the win. The Eagles displayed balanced scoring, led by Karys Deiter with 21 points. Savanah Wende added 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while Kailyn Hanni scored 11 points. Jaylie Whitehead finished with eight points and Paige Heiman added seven.
Nemaha Central, which has dropped four of its last five games, was led by Emma Hermesch with 11 points. Caroline Nordhus contributed nine points and five rebounds.
With the victory, Silver Lake improved to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in Big East League play. Nemaha Central fell to 11-7 overall and 6-2 in league action.
