Royal Valley Panthers played host to seven other schools in competition for track and field on Monday and dominated the competition to win both the boys and girls team titles.
On the girls side the Panthers tallied 125 total points on the day 34 points better than second place Topeka Hayden on the day. Royal Valley's great performance was lead by a pair of gold medals as Macy Putnam and Mara Winter both won an event crown. Macy took home the 300 meter hurdles title, running a time of 53.10, also six seconds better than second place. Mara won the triple jump title behind a leap of 32-06 over a foot better an the second place leap. Panthers also compiled five second place and five third place finishes on the day.
For the boys of Royal Valley the dominating performance was even more daunting, as the Panthers compiled 180 total points 104 points better than second place finishers, Rock Creek. Eight first place finishes on the day for the Panthers helped propel them to a dominating victory.
The Panthers relay teams won the 4x400 and 4x800 relays while placing second in the 4x100 meter relay. In the 4x400 the Panthers run to the tune of a time of 3:42.77, while registering a time of 8:36.28 in the 4x800. Individually both, Thomas Broxterman and Skyler Link each won a pair of gold medals for Royal Valley, with Broxterman winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs and Link taking the 200 meter dash and triple jump crowns. Thomas finished with times of 2:04.63 and 5:03.39 to win the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Link dashed to a time of 25.15 to capture the 200 meter dash and leapt 41-03 to win the triple jump.
Winning didn't stop there for the Panthers as Wemiko Lewis, Chris Chapman and Gary Smith all won an event title, also. Both, Lewis and Smith won tossing competitions with Lewis winning the discus throw by nearly 17 feet with a toss of 137-01, while Smith won the javelin by nearly 10 feet, with a toss of 163-06. Chapman won the high jump for the Panthers with a leap of 5-10 on the days action.
While, Royal Valley stole the show at their home meet one other area school in Jackson Heights also competed and took home fourth as a team on the boys side and eighth on the girls side. Individually, Caleb Niehues won the shot pot for the Cobras with a toss of 47-10.
