It was an action packed day of baseball and softball action in the Kanzaland are on Monday and there were multiple big time performances my many individuals for their teams.
Softball:
Troy Swept Doniphan West -- 19-2 and 19-1
The offensive production for the Troy Trojans continued this season with a pair of dominating wins of the Mustangs of Doniphan West, with 19-2 and 19-1 wins on the road.
Trojans got the day underway starting off with a 7-run first inning in the 19-2 win, as Troy only outhit Doniphan West by a small margin in the game, but used 26 walks to capture the win. Brea Smith was the only Trojan to finish game one with more than one hit going, 2-4 with 3 RBI's and a triple. Tanner Weishaar picked up the pitching victory with five innings of work, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 4 K's.
Game two, the offense for Troy continued this time the Trojans outhit the Mustangs 16-3 in the game and used an 8-run third to break things open in their favor. Cailyn Anderson, Weishaar, Holly Stegall and Kelli Marriott each had three runs scored in game. Anderson finished the night 3-3 with 3 RS, 2 RBI, walk and six stolen bases, while Stegall, Marriott and Weishaar each finished the game with two hits apiece. Marriott was on the base pads five times going 2-2 with 4 RBI, 3 RS, two doubles, three walks and seven stolen bases.
Holton Swept Perry Lecompton -- 19-4 and 17-6
Lady Wildcats continued to win on the season taking a pair from another Big Seven League squad in beating Perry Lecompton 19-4 and 17-6. Highlighting the night for Holton was the performance of Cassidy Merriman who finished the double header 6-9 with 7 RS, 9 RBI, walk, double, two home-runs and four stolen bases.
Wildcats also had Taryn Weilert and Amber Searles had solid games on the evening. Weilert went 3-5 with 2 RS and 2 RBI in teh 19-4 Holton win, while Searles went 3-4 with 3 RS, 5 RBI, walk and a home-run in the 17-6 win for the Wildcats. Emmy McMangial and Quinn Holaday picked up the wins for the pitching for Holton.
Royal Valley Panthers Pounce on Jeff West for Sweep -- 9-8 (in 9 innings) and 8-7
It was a pair of close games but the Panthers of Royal Valley got the best of the battle of the cats against the Jeff West Tigers behind a pair of one-run wins, 9-8 in nine innings and 8-7. Royal Valley on the night was lead by the great performance of Jaycee Worrell who finished 7-10 with 3 RS, 3 RBI with a double and triple. Kaileigh Gray-Milligan and Megan Schultz picked up the pitching wins for the Panthers in the double header against Jeff West. Tigers were plagued by five errors in the 8-7 loss for them in that matchup.
Santa Fe Trail Swept Hiawatha in Big Seven DH -- 15-0 and 15-4
Chargers mounted early offense in one and steady offense in the other to distpatch the Redhawks in a double header. Santa Fe Trail pushed out to early lead in the 15-0 win, behind 14-runs in the first inning alone cruising to the win with Briahna Beckman going 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 RS and Shelby Dahl adding a 2-3 game with 4 RBI and 2 RS.
In the 15-4 win for Santa Fe Trail, Hiawatha managed some offense plating one run in the second and fourth innings and two in the fifth but the Chargers had a pair of 5-run innings to help propel them to the win. Amber Moore lead the Chargers in the game going 2-4 with a RS, 6 RBI and a double.
Oskaloosa Tops Maur Hill-Mount Academy in a Pair -- 15-0 and 19-0
Oskaloosa wasted no time and took control early of the games versus Maur Hill to gain 15-0 and 19-0 wins. The Bears used a lopsided offensive production in their favor to gain the wins as they outhit the Ravens 31-4 in the games combined.
Bears started off the 19-0 win with a 15-run first inning and didn't look back from their. Madison Miller and Bree Brooks lead Oskaloosa in the game with a 4-5 and 3-5 performance, respectively. Miller went 4-4 with 3 RS, RBI and a double, while Brooks went 3-5 with a RS, RBI, triple and home-run.
In the 15-0 win the Bears saw Haidyn Bassett lead the way with a 4-4 game with 3 RS, 3 RBI, a double and triple, while earning the pitching victory.
Valley Falls and McLouth Split DH -- 5-4 (McLouth Win) & 6-4 (Valley Falls Win)
Atchison Splits with Basehor-Linwood -- 5-4 (Basehor-Linwood Win) & 6-4 (Atchison Win)
Baseball:
Riverside Cyclones Whirl Past Pleasant Ridge -- 2-1 and 12-10
Cyclones continued their solid start to the baseball season behind a sweep of fellow DVL school Pleasant Ridge behind a pair of different games.
Riverside used timely hits and pitching to gain a 2-1 win, while using offensive more in the 12-10 win. In game one it was Dylan Gabriel leading the way on the mound pitching a complete game to improve to 4-0 on the season, while Zach Halter provide the offensive punch scoring both runs and blasting a home-run.
In game two, it was a familiar name from game one highlighting things for Riverside with Halter coming up big at the plate again and earning the pitching win, also with a complete game performance to improve to 2-0 on the season. Zach offensively in game two went 3-4 with two homers, a walk and 7 RBI.
Valley Falls Dragons Dominate McLouth in DH -- 20-2 and 22-4
The Dragons put up big numbers offensively agian this season this time dispatching the McLouth Bulldogs in a double header with 20-2 and 22-4 wins.
Valley Falls in game one finished the game in five innings with a 10-run fifth inning, in game two a 12-run seventh inning secured the Dragons victory.
Offensively it was a trio highlighting the Dragons night with junior, Tyler Weishaar going 7-9 with 6 RBI's and junior, Luke Burns went 4-8. Senior, Kyle Glissman went 5-9 with three doubles and 5 RBI's to help the Dragons to the wins.
Gates Glassel and Zac Allen each picked up the pitching victories for Valley Falls.
McLouth in the losses were outhit by Valley Falls 24-8, but Sam Rainey did go 3-3 with a RS in the 14-6 loss for the Bulldogs.
Troy and Doniphan West Splits DVL DH -- 15-4 (Troy Win) & 9-8 (Doniphan West)
It was a split on the night for the Trojans and the Mustangs in a DVL showdown, with Troy winning a 15-4 contest and Doniphan West earning a 9-8 win.
For the Mustangs, they were outhit by Troy 11-8 in their win but came up with a 4-run bottom of the seventh inning to grab the 9-8. Doniphan West was up 5-0 after the first inning but Troy held the 8-5 lead going into the bottom of seventh when the Mustangs offense woke back up for 4-runs to win the game.
In game one, it was all Troy with runs produced with a big 7-run third inning to help them earn the 15-4 win. Trojans only outhit the Mustangs 11-8 in the game, but three Doniphan West errors hurt them in the game.
Nemaha Central & Santa Fe Trail Split Big 7 DH -- 6-3 (Nemaha Central Win) & 10-5 (Santa Fe Trail Win)
It was another split on the season for Nemaha Central as they fell to Santa Fe Trail 10-5 but got a 6-3 win over the Chargers, also on the night.
Down 10-1 going into the sixth inning Nemaha Central plated three in the sixth and in the seventh looked to continue the rally but only muscled one-run to ultimately fall short in the contest.
In the other matchup Nemaha Central built a lead early over the Chargers and held off all of Santa Fe Trail's rallies to hold on for the 6-3 win.
Perry Lecompton Completed the Sweep of Royal Valley -- 4-3 and 8-0
The Kaws needed a run in eighth inning to earn their 4-3 win and capitalized on five Royal Valley errors to gain their 8-0 win over the Panthers. Perry only outhit Royal Valley 7-6 in the 4-3 win but came up with a most important play late to gain the win with the winning run coming in the eighth.
Holton and Jeff West Split Big Seven Showdown -- 11-8 (Holton Win) & 10-0 (Jeff West Win)
In the battle of the cats it was the Wildcats of Holton and the Tigers of Jeff West finished with a split with the Tigers dominating their win and the Wildcats squeezing out their win.
For Holton they outhit Jeff West 11-5 in the Wildcats win but the Tigers took advantage of opportunties to remain in the game. Justin Reischick lead the way for the Wildcats with a homer on the night and 2 RBI's in the ballgame.
Jeff West opened the night with a 10-0 dominating performance by the Tigers over the Wildcats, as Jeff West outhit Holton 13-2 in the game and Holton committed four errors.
