Centralia Boys & Girls Win Doniphan West Relays While Other Schools Have Top Performers Too

On a chilly and windy Tuesday for spring sports six area schools and two others took on each other in track and field competitions as part of the Doniphan West Relays, with the Mustangs playing host.

The day was highlighted by the Centralia Panthers has both the girls and boys teams capture team titles on the day, both by 30-plus points. For the boys they amassed 169 total points, 36 more than second place Horton who finished with 133 total points, good for second place as they only other boys team with over 100 points. The Ravens of Maur Hill-Mount Academy rounded out the top three in team performances on the boy's side finishing with 80 points. Doniphan West took home fourth, Vertias Christian placed fifth, Troy finished sixth, Wetmore took seventh and Maranatha took home eighth to round out the action.

On the girls side it the scoring was a little more lopsided with Centralia dominating with 136 total points, topping second place by 40 points. Taking home second place was the Ravens of Maur Hill-Mount Academy who tallied 96 points and the host Doniphan West finished third with 85 total points. Wetmore finished fourth, Horton placed fifth, Vertias Christian took home sixth, Troy grabbed seventh place and Maranatha finished eighth to round out the action.

In the boys competitions on the day the Panthers were led by eight first place finishes including a pair of gold medals for junior, Brett Burdiek who both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, completing the sweep in the hurdles competitions behind times of 17.22 and 46.33, respectively. The running event first place finishes for Centralia didn't stop there with wins in the 100 meter dash, 3200 meter run and 4x100 meter relay. Darrian Turner sprinted his way to a win in the 100 meter dash (11.97), while Braden Deters won the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:42.00. Panthers 4x100 meter relay team took home that title with a time of 48.15.

Horton Chargers boys took home six first place finishes with two individuals taking home a pair of gold medals. Trey Dishon and Dakota Bayles both captured first place finishes in two events to help the Chargers lead the way. Dishon tossed his way to wins in the discus and shot put with throws of 115-03.50 and 46-05, respectively. Bayles took home wins in the javelin and 400 meter dash, winning the javelin behind a toss of 136-01, nearly 12 feet better than second, while winning the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.50.

Chargers also grabbed first place finishes in the 4x400 meter relay behind a time of 48.15 and Derrick Stone won the triple jump with a leap of 37-05.

Maur Hill won the other four event crowns on the day in the boys competition with Nathaniel Curry leading the way by winning the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:17 and 5:11. Austin Geenens took home the 200 meter dash crown (23.88) and the Ravens also won the 4x800 meter relay (10:05.00).

In the girl's competition, Centralia took home first as a team behind seven first place finishes at the Doniphan West Relays. Panther, Drew Kramer took home multiple event gold's winning both the 300 meter hurdles (53.00) and high jump with a leap of 4-08. Riley Hanzlik and Katy Haufler both won a event titles taking the javelin and pole vault titles with a toss of 105-00 and vault of 7-06. Panthers took home the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays behind times of 4:55.00 and 11:07.41, respectively. Mayda Stallbaumer also won a gold for Centralia, winning the 800 meter run (2:39.00).

The lady Ravens of the Maur Hill took home a second place finish behind the great performances of Sarah Mullins who won three individual events on the day. Sarah took home gold's in the 100 and 20 meter dashes with times of 15.15 and 28.28, while winning the long jump, also behind a leap of 15-02.50. Ravens, also took home a first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay (58.20).

Both the Wetmore Cardinals and Horton Chargers girl's squads took home three first place finishes. For the Cardinals, Dana Kramer led the way with wins in the 100 meter hurdles (19.25) and triple jump (31-05). Ryley Martin also captured a first place finish for the Cardinals winning the 400 meter dash behind a time of 1:08.66. The Chargers were led by Leah Murata who won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:51.00 and 12:59.00, while her teammate Carrissa Lowe won the shot put with a toss of 32-07.

Despite the colder weather many area athletes hit the track and the field and performed well in this year's Doniphan West Relays.
