Nemaha Valley Boys & B&B Girls Win Nemaha Valley Track Invite Titles (Full Results)

On a day that finally featured decent weather during the weekend Nemaha Valley was able to have a rescheduled track Invitational featuring other area teams in Wetmore, B&B, Axtell, Pawnee City and Hiawatha.

The Raiders and the Falcons took home the top team performances of the day at the Nemaha Valley Invitational. On the boys side the host Raiders registered 164.5 points, 20-plus points better than second place. In the girls competition it was the lady Falcons of B&B tallying 148 points to just get past the second place finishers on the day in Nemaha Valley who finished with 143.5 points.

Rounding out the finishes on the girls side was Axtell taking third, Pawnee City finishing fourth, Wetmore taking fifth and Hiawatha finishing sixth. On the boys side second place went to Axtell, third was captured by Pawnee City, B&B grabbed fourth, Hiawatha took fifth and Wetmore finished sixth.

Nemaha Valley boys took home a first place finish behind four first place finishes on the day, a pair of which came a the hands of Mitchell Baumgartner who swept the hurldes. Mitchell took home the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.54 and 43.84, respectively. His teammates Isaac McWilliams and Colin Lierz took home first place finishes, also by winning the 1600 meter run (5:00.93) and 800 meter run (2:14.84), respectively.

Axtell who took a second place team finish took home the most individual first place finishes with six in the boys competition. Eagles performances were highlighted by a sweep in the relay competitions winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 with times of 45.96, 3:43.43 and 9:16.58, respectively. Axtell took home two more first places in the running competitions with Payton Heinen winning the 200 meter dash (24.20) and Tracy Schmitz winning the 3200 meter run (11:10.43). Aaron Schmelzle took home the Eagles only field event win in the boys competition by winning the javelin thrown (148-07).

The lone team not from Kansas competing in the competition in the Pawnee City Indians had they day highlighted by Austin Smith who leapt his way to three gold medals. Smith won the high jump (6-00), long jump (18-02) and triple jump (40-07). The Indians continued to dominate the field events as Scott Borcher and Colten Fisher won the shot put (46-06) and pole vault (12-06).

For the Falcons of B&B, Trevor Heiman highlighted their performances winning both the 100 and 400 meter dashes with times of 11.24 and 55.52. Hiawatha had one first place finisher on the boys side with Quentin Overdick winning the discus throw with a toss of 143-04.

On the girls side the lady Falcons of B&B were lead to their first place finish behind six first place finishes in the action. Falcons top performances came at the hands of Haley Strathman who won the high jump (5-06) and the triple jump (33-08.50) and Laura Sudbeck who won the javelin (108-02) and shot put (39-07). Falcons also claimed the 4x100 meter relay title with a time of 54.18 and Sam Wessel won the long jump with a leap of (14-11).

The Axtell Eagles took home four first place finishes with Audrey Schmitz winning the 1600 and 3200 meter runs behind times of 5:34.37 and 12:18.84. Eagles also took home the 4x800 meter relay title (11:20.83) and saw Bradie Schmitz win the 400 meter dash behind a time of 1:05.58.

Host school Nemaha Valley took home four first place finishes, Axtell but finished ahead of the Eagles in the team standings. Jaci Swart and Michaela Stallbaumer both won field events for the Raiders. Swart vaulted her way to the pole vault title (9-00), while Stallbaumer tossed her way to the win in the discus (98-02.25). Ashley Rottinghaus took home the 800 meter run title behind a time of 2:40.43, while the Raiders also won the 4x400 meter relay (4:31.02).

Pawnee City and Wetmore each had one individual have a first place finish on the day. In the case of the Indians, Shelby Hundley won three events winnning the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.02 and 28.05, respectively, while also winning the 300 meter hurdles (48.27). For, Wetmore, Dana Kramer won the 100 meter hurdles behind a time of 16.55. 

It was a great day again for many of the teams competing at the Nemaha Valley Invite with all the schools having some top performers.
