Royal Valley Boys & Girls Wins Home Big 7 Track Quad

The weather finally played into the hands of spring sports allowing the reschedule Big Seven League Quad with Hiawatha, Perry Lecompton, Jeff West and host Royal Valley to be go, yesterday (April 24th).

Of the four teams competing it was the Panthers of Royal Valley shining the brighest on Wednesday winning both the girls and boys team crowns. On the boys side Royal Valley tallied 123.5 total points to finishing in a commanding fashion above the other teams on the day. As Jeff West took second with 64 total points, Hiawatha was right behind with 63.5 points and Perry Lecompton finished fourth with 20 points.

In the girls competition it Royal Valley made it a little closer but the girls tallied 97 total points, to capture first place. Jeff West took home second place with 81 total points, while Hiawatha took third with 47 and Perry Lecompton finished with 29 points for fourth place.

The dominating the point total for the Panther boys came at the hand of nine first place finishes on the day with Thomas Broxterman and the Royal Valley relay teams pacing the way with two gold's apiece. Broxterman registered wins in the 400 meter dash and 800 meter runs behind times of 53.47 and 2:09.57, respectively. The Panthers captured the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay titles with times of 3:41.03 and 8:50.00, respectively.

Royal Valley's first place finishers didn't stop there as the rest came in field events as the Panthers won five of the seven field events on the day, with all five wins coming at the hands of different Panthers. Both, Skyler Link and Austin Hodison leapt their way to wins in the long jump (20-06) and triple jump (39-09), respectively. While, Gary Smith and Wemiko Lewis tossed their way to wins in the javelin (145-05) and discus (158-08), respectively. Chris Chapman took home the other field event win for Royal Valley winning the pole vault with a vault of 11-06.

Jeff West took home the second most first place finishers on the boys side of competition with four. Micah LaCrone lead the way by winning both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:16.03 and 11:28.81, respectively. Fellow Tigers, Drew Slimmer and Matt Coates made it a Jeff West sweep in the sprint races winning the 100 meter (11.88) and 200 meter dashes (24.63), respectively.

The Redhawks of Hiawatha captured three first place finishes in the boys competition winning the 4X100 meter relay (45.69), shot put and high jump. Josh Hinkle captured the shot put crown with a toss of 47-00 and Conner Bigham won the high jump behind a leap of 6-00.

Perry Lecompton took home two first place finishes both coming at the hands of Tyler Ball who swept the hurdles competition winning the 110 meter (17.58) and 300 meters (42.86).

On the girls side it was far more even in the first place finishes on the day than on the boys side as Royal Valley and Hiawatha both took home six gold's and Jeff West grabbed five.

For the Panthers on their way to first place as a team they were lead by six different people to capture their six first places. In the running competitions the Panthers brought home the 4x800 meter relay title with a time of 11:34.27, while Macy Putnam won the 300 meter hurdles (53.17), Sierra McClane won the 1600 meter run (7:03.68) and Kaytlyn Goodrel won the 3200 meter run (13:10.03).

The remaining two first place finishes for the Panthers came at the hands of Mara Winter and Elizabeth Blevins who won the triple jump and long jump, respectively with leaps of 31-11.5 and 15-02.5.

The Redhawks took home six gold medals and five came at the hands of two gals on the day. Emily Gartner continued to be a force in the throwing competition sweeping all three events the shot put (36-01), discus (110-02) and javelin (109-10). While, Jordan Puvogel took home the 400 and 800 meter runs crowns behind times of 63.77 and 2:40.54. Brianna Schmitz joined her Redhawk teammates with a first place finish winning the high jump with a leap of 4-10.

The Tigers of Jeff West took home five first place finishes with Kendal Holloman and their relay teams highlighting the action. Holloman took home a pair of golds by winning both the pole vault (7-06) and the 100 meter dash (13.88), while the relay teams won the 4x100 and 4x400 with times of 53.56 and 4:36.50. Also, Haley Seiss nabbed a first place finish for the Tigers by winning the 200 meter dash (28.19).

Perry Lecompton took home one first place in the girls competition with Jordan Erickson winning the 100 meter hurdles.

All four Big Seven League teams gear up for more track and field action as the week continues and the weather continues to be spring like.
