Peru State athletic director Steve Schneider has announced that Bobcat softball player Emily Maresh (Central City) and Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) have been selected as the April Bobcat Athletes of the Month.

Maresh, a senior catcher, earned her fourth Athlete of the Month recognition since the honor started in October of 2011.  For Maresh, this is her second time being recognized for her softball prowess after earning the honor twice in volleyball.

Near the end of the softball regular season, Maresh was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Player of the Week, as she helped lead her team to three wins during the week.  During the week, Maresh hit two home runs, one triple, and one double.  Maresh batted .462 on the week, had a slugging percentage of 1.154, and drive in nine RBI.

Maresh's two home runs moved her into a tie for fourth in the Bobcats' all-time chart.  Also, Maresh moved into fifth for career RBI and ninth on the all-time doubles chart.

The sophomore shortstop, Santiesteban won the HAAC Baseball Player of the Week recognition following his efforts during the first week of the month.  For Santiesteban, it was his second HAAC recognition of the season.

Santiesteban was 11 of 32, batting .344, with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, ten RBI, and scored five runs as he and his Bobcats won five games.  In a win over Benedictine to end the week, Santiesteban was three for five with one double, one triple, and five RBI.

During April, Santiesteban led the HAAC in RBI per game.

Schneider said, “Emily and Randy are deserving of the recognition as the Bobcat April Athletes of the Month.  Both of them had good months and helped lead their team to victories, along with their teammates.”
