With the first third of the high school football season in the books, week four is filled with intriguing and critical league showdowns as well as several homecomings for this Friday, September 21st.

In the Big 7 League, the only two unbeaten teams collide as Class 4A #1 Holton travels to 3-0 Hiawatha. The Redhawks are off to their best start since 2005, but haven’t defeated Holton since a playoff win in 2001. The winner is certainly in the driver’s seat in the Big 7, a league Hiawatha hasn’t won since 1995. Holton survived a 13-12 victory against Hiawatha in 2009 and is gunning for their fifth straight undefeated league title this season. Live coverage of Hiawatha and Holton can be heard on 103.9 FM and www.mscsports.net

Suprisingly, the only other Big 7 team with a winning record in 2012 is Nemaha Valley who has won two straight and is 2-0 in league play. The Raiders travel to face a Perry Lecompton team (1-2) that has had all three of their games this season decided by scores in the fourth quarter.

Jeff West has experienced heart-break in back-to-back weeks with loses in the final minutes and host a Santa Fe Trail team that came within five points last week of winning their initial Big 7 League contest. Meanwhile, in a battle of 1-2 squads, Sabetha has homecoming against a Royal Valley team that has allowed more than 40 points in loses the previous two weeks.

Perhaps the best matchup in the Delaware Valley League in week four features teams that have not had posted a winning season in more than five years. However, both MH-MA and Jackson Heights are off to 2-1 starts with the Cobras posting 50 plus points the last two weeks. MH-MA started 2-0 before falling at home to Riverside last week. While 3-0 Riverside is home to face rival Troy, other DVL unbeatens include ACCHS (3-0) hosting Valley Falls and McLouth (3-0) perhaps facing their biggest challenge in a non-league game at Olpe (2-1). The reigning DVL South Champion Bulldogs have been most impressive in outscoring their first trio of foes by a combined 122-27.

The defending DVL north champs from Doniphan West are 0-3 but have lost to three teams that have a combined 9-0 record. D-West travels to Horton (2-1) who joins Jackson Heights and Immaculata (2-1) as teams that have already matched or surpassed last year’s win total.

In the Twin Valley League, the four 11-Man teams are matched up again this week with Centralia-Wetmore trying to stay perfect with a road game at Onaga (2-1) on KMZA 92.1 FM and

Meanwhile, a few 8-Man team have already started district play and Clifton Clyde faces almost a must-win at Rock Hills (3-0) after being upset by Pike Valley in their district opener a week ago. B&B is the only 3-0 team in the TVL to play tonight and after a trio of impressive wins, the Falcons travel to face an Independence Home School team that is in their first year of existence.

Fans of Frankfort (3-0) and Hanover will have to find another team to follow tonight because both Wildcat squads have a week four bye before starting district play.

Catch a breakdown and preview of all the week four Kansas High School Football action with the Friday Night Fever show starting at 6:00 PM on Kanzaland Radio and online at www.mscsports.net.
