Holton Wins Nemaha Valley Boys Golf Invite Team Crown

Mother Nature postponed many high school sports in the listening area on Thursday but it didn't stop nine area teams and one other from hitting the golf course in Seneca and competing in the Nemaha Valley Invitational.

At the end of the day at Spring Creek golf course in Seneca it was the Holton Wildcats claiming the team title at the Nemaha Valley Invitational posting a 4-Man score of 321. Kenton Tegethoff paced the way for Holton posting a 78 registering the second best round on the day, just one-stroke off first place. The three others who helped compile the Wildcats team score all finished in the top 10 individually, as Braden Sides took home fourth with a 79, while Ethan Holaday placed seventh with a round of 81 and Garett Beecher took ninth with an 83. Both Walker Degenhardt and Parker Sides also competed for the Wildcats posting rounds of 88 and 87, respectively.

The host of the event the Nemaha Valley Raiders came away with second place as a team finishing with a 339 4-Man team score and were led by Zach Bradley on the day who shot a 78 taking third place individually. Cody Kramer and Dylan Enneking followed up Bradley by posting rounds of 84 and 87, respectively on the day to contribute to the team score; Kramer's score earned him tenth place individually. The final score of the Raiders team score was an 89 which both Blake Mohney and Caleb Meyer shot on the day, while Justice McKernan also competed on the day posting a 92.

USD 380, Frankfort and Centralia took home third place as a team and were led by Ryan Vernon's fifth place finish after posting an 80 on the course. Danny Mueting, Brett Burdiek and Chase Boyce rounded out the rest of the teams 352 score behind rounds of 92, 94 and 96, respectively. Both Jason Gore and Kobe Rumbo also competed posting rounds of 103 and 127 each.

Onaga and Maur Hill-Mount Academy rounded out the top five team finishes on the day taking fourth and fifth, respectively with 4-Man team scores of 374 and 379.

The Buffalos of Onaga were led by Lucas Helget's 81 which earned him eighth place on the day, while Jace Fischer, James Johnson and Ben Kufhal rounded out the Onaga team scores with rounds of 92, 100 and 101.

Maur Hill on the day was led by Christian Wessel who placed sixth individually with an 81 on the course. Canyon Miller joined Wessel with an under 90 score posting an 87, while Skylar Busenbarrick posted a 99 and Kyle Mason finished the Ravens team score off with a 102. Drew Harris also competed for the Ravens on the day shooting a 109.

The rest of the team finishes shook out with St. Mary's (406) placing sixth, Washington County (411) taking seventh, Valley Heights (449) registered eighth place, Atchison (449) took ninth as a team and Horton (450) finished tenth in the ten team competition.

Washington County was led by Tyson Hynek on the day with the Tigers best round posting a 91. Matt Small (102), Taylor Metz (109), Colton Linenberger (113) and Evan Oullette (129) also competed for Washington County at the Invitational.

For Valley Heights their day was led by Patrick Hale who posted a 95, while Alec Doner shot a 97 for the Mustangs and Blake Woodyard and Cole Maddox posted rounds of 125 and 128, respectively.

Atchison had the best round of the day individually as Gabe Julo posted a 77 to individually win the Invitational, while four other Redmen also competed on the day. Jase Nelson (102), Micah Dulac (131), Dustin Goodman (139) and Katelyn Truman (139) competed, too for Atchison.

Horton had four competitors on the day and was led by Skylar Wabnum who shot a 95, while Thomas Howard (116), Cameron Smith (118) and Rex Bruning (121) each took to the course for Horton, too.

Linn also was in action at the meet with just two competitors as Chase McGatlin and Andrew Meyer posted rounds of 103 and 100, respectively.

Teams now turn their attention to more golf action next week in multiple events.
