Atchison Tennis Out-Duals Hiawatha on the Courts

Despite the cold and windy day Atchison played host to Hiawatha for a boys tennis dual matchup facing off against each other in nine varsity matches.

The Redmen dominated the day going 9-0 in competition, holding the Red Hawks to two points or fewer in seven of the nine matches on the day.

The best matchup of the day came in doubles competition as Jason DeFisher and Lance Ernzen for Atchison had a tough battle against Hiawatha's tandem of Austin Bigham and Connor Winters, as the matched ended with a score of 8-7 (7-4). Bigham was the only other Red Hawk to post three more points in another match for the Red Hawks as he fell to Spencer Walker 8-3 in singles competition.

For the Redmen Wade Gassmann, Colton Weinmann and DeFisher all won their singles competitions 8-0 over Joseph Kunkel, Ryan Shamburg and Austin Irwin for Hiawatha. Ernzen and Karl Dolenz both won singles matches for Atchison via a 8-1 score over Shamburg and Justin Warring for Hiawatha.

While in doubles competition Gassmann and Walker for Atchison topped Kunkel and Brandon Hurn of Hiawatha 8-3 and Weinmann and Dolenz topped Bigham and Winters 8-0.
